The whole family attended the NICU reunion this past weekend
at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital … which , by the way, is the
#1 NICU in the
country!
Well deserved in my
opinion!!
I never really thought about
how blessed we are to have this amazing hospital so close until we needed
it.
I will say, it was nice to be there
without having to see any specialist and get to catch up a bit with some of the
nurses and other patients that we had always wondered about.
Since being admitted in the “regular” part of the hospital
several times over that past year, Micah and I came to appreciate how amazing
their NICU is.
We got to see 2 of our
top nurses that Paul has ever had.
I
always feel so emotional when I think about them and what they did for us.
This is Darcy … she was the first nurse Paul ever had.
She was there at the worst.
She is an incredible..
She is so patient, calm and kind yet
assertive when she needed to be.
In the
haze of the first day of Paul’s life … when his kidneys were working, he was receiving
blood transfusion and he was on the vent … she took time to talk to me numerous
times over the phone while I was still at a different hospital.
I remember not even knowing what to say or
ask and being scared out of my mind.
She
absolutely shares in the credit of saving Paul’s life … how do you ever
properly thank someone for that?
I have
thought about what I would do for some of these people if I had a million
dollars … I still don’t think it would be enough.

| Paul, Day 1 |
I know these nurses or often overworked and underpaid but I
think they have wings tucked up under those scrubs … So, to Darci, Melissa,
Rhonda, John and several others we consider you our angels on earth … spreading
hope and encouragement as well as comforting our despair … and most importantly,
giving me the opportunity to know the exact shade of brown my Pauly’s eyes
are.
Pauly, Today.
From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you.
