The way he sounds when he breaths is called a stridor and is caused by the low tone in his throat ... More specifically floppy aryteniods which are part of your Larynx. The condition is called Laryngomalasia. His stridor is concerning for numerous reasons and has been haunting us since the NICU. We are most concerned that is airway stays open so he gets enough oxygen especially since he has some apnea when he sleeps. After numerous scopes and tests it has always been determined that his OK ... Go Pauly!
We pray that he continues to stay stable and no further intervention will be required (trach) but we will cross that bridge if and when we come to it. They can do a procedure called a supraglottoplasty which would trim his aryteniods and make his breathing quieter ... Of course, we could also compromise his ability to protect his airway. No, thank you ... I will keep my lil Darth Vador baby and just smile at the people that turn around in their pew to see what all the ruckus is behind them. Maybe I will even give them a little wave ; )
BTW ... You might be a special needs mom is you can spell supraglottoplasty without looking it up ... Just sayin'
