Taxes

I am telling you, I feel like I spend my days putting out fires.  Everyday, a new crisis pops up.  After the day I had today, I deserve to go swimming in a vat of chocolate chip icecream … but I am too tired.

One potentially large crisis has hopefully come closer to a resolution today.

For one reason or another, Micah and I filed for an extension on our taxes this year.  We finally got all of our stuff together in August and filed then only to find out a couple of weeks later that they were rejected.  Get this, someone had already filed a tax return claiming Paul as a dependent.  What!!  I mean, who would do something like this to a sick child?

We hope that this is a mistake and somebody just “fat fingered” their own return but according to the IRS you have to have a name and a social that match for it can  be accepted … they did not think it was a mistake.

His social security number is all over the place … we see so many people that it would be easy for someone to get a hold of it.  Apparently, this happens to a lot of elderly people in nursing homes for the same reason.  Just terrible.

We had to paper file with an explanation and wait to see what happened.  Needless to say, we are working on having a credit report done on P but they make it pretty hard to get one for a person under 13.  Can you imagine if my 2 year old, severely disabled son had credit card debt!?  Mama bear is gonna be mad.  We are also concerned that any investigation may mess up his Medicaid.  Ugh … what a nightmare.

The good news of today is that the IRS accepted it!  Good thing too because I need that money to pay for the girls school tuition!  I think it is pretty obvious that we were legit and I just hope that we aren’t going to find anything else fishy going on.  I'll keep you posted.

I am so ready for this day to be over and hoping for a little less stress tomorrow.  Nighty Night!!
